Earthquake in Toronto and beyond

Well it does appear that minor shaking that was felt about 20 min or so ago wasn’t just confined to here in the Beach area of Toronto or just toronto itself, but other parts of Ontario and maybe even further, if what I am reading on twitter is accurate – still waiting for the official word to confirm what happened, but well know shortly I am sure.

Update 5.5 EarthQuake hits part of Canada and US – so from what I see from the Globe that quake originated in Quebec and was felt from there on out.

From the Natural Resources Canada Earthquake information page we currently get the following posting from their site … “June 23 1:45 pm Eastern Time – A moderate earthquake has occurred in the Ottawa-Montreal region. More information to follow”

From CBC we learn 5.5-magnitude tremor is first on ‘fault line’ since 1998.

June 23, 2010 – The City of Toronto Earthquake

In our initial assessment, there has been no major damage to City infrastructure. Further investigations are taking place to confirm. The Toronto Transit Commission and Transportation Services have reported that there has been no damage to their infrastructure or interruptions to service.

The City’s Emergency Operations Centre is up and running in preparation for the G20 so the City is uniquely prepared to respond to the event. We will continue to monitor the situation and will report as necessary.

Residents should follow the instructions of their building management.

The City has received no calls concerning bridge, building or other infrastructure problems.

While not applicable to this event, in future, should there be a major or more serious earthquake:

Residents should stay away from glass, windows, outside doors and walls. DROP to the ground; take COVER by getting under a sturdy table or other piece of furniture; and HOLD ON until the shaking stops. If there isn’t a table or desk near you, cover your face and head with your arms and crouch in an inside corner of the building.
If outdoors – stay there. Move away from buildings, streetlights, and utility wires. Once in the open, stay there until the shaking stops.
If in a moving vehicle, stop as quickly as safety permits and stay in the vehicle. Avoid stopping near or under buildings, trees, overpasses and utility wires

Quebec Earthquake June 23rd 2010

It was interesting to feel the quake as it hit, hubby didn’t know what to make of it at first since he’s never felt one in his life – he is more use to dealing with Tornados going though and landing close by then he is feeling the shaking from a earth quake – go figure. I’ve experienced both and to me the Tornado is way worse then the shaking, then again I’ve never been though a major quake like many in parts of the US have – just the few that we’ve had around here tis all.

The thing is before the quake hit my birds where screaming their heads off for a good bit before it happened, we took not notice of them doing it because well they scream a lot and well it didn’t seem any different then normal since my dog did nothing, he was fast asleep and didn’t even wake up when the quake struck he just kept on sleeping away not even bothering to raise his head to see what is going on, it was only when we got up to check things that he even bothered to look up.

Job hunting in Ontario

Well its been a long time since I had a 9 to 5 type work to go to, and it is frustrating to say the least that I don’t have it as yet to go back to.

I might not have liked the getting to the office or leaving it, but I enjoyed being at a work environment and in general working for that constant paycheck.

I know that harper and what not say that employment is on the rise here in Canada, and that more jobs have been made in Ontario, and even more in Toronto itself. Well I for one would LOVE to see where!

Coffee, Coffee … mmmm yummmers

Well it happened, had a fair amount of it today

For the first time since May of last year I actually had more then a 10oz cup. I stopped drinking coffee when my hubby and I got married, stopped it cold turkey – before we got married I’d have a min of one 10oz cup at some point in the day. But once we got married, I just stopped cold.

While living down in the US for 5 months I had a couple cups when we where out and about – but nun of it tasted that great (only place I found made half decent java was Dutch Bros, but it wasn’t an easy place to get to so only ended up with it a few times.

We’re back and an Update

Well we’re back,

We did find once place that was not all grease and fat to eat at, it was a place attached to Days Inn (i think it was – looked like popular chain, cause when I looked it up down there it seemed to be attached to just about all of them in one form or another – but its not the case up here).

We ate at it the second last day we were there, would have liked to have known about it sooner, but then again as he said its not that cheap to eat at, and it wasn’t when it cost us about 25.00 for the meal (though that is about average – its still more then we pay here for a meal between the two of us).

ouch he did get in …. not good

Well it does appear that that Oboma got in, over the old bloke.

I am not pleased, then again to me neither of them from what I saw was worth it – one throwing around funds like candy the other luck lacking period.

I know the US hasn’t got much going for it when it comes to election choices only have two parties, but still.

Well I am 100% glad its over with, now I can stop getting all the crap in my inbox and all the crap filling my accounts in relation to the elections that I had no interest in what so ever – aka I don’t send out notices to people about who I am voting for encouraging them to do the same, thus I do NOT like getting such crap from others.

Oh well one can hope that this time around the US public didn’t elect yet another nit twit – but since the bloke appears to have little info on Canada to start with it seems that this is the case.

Got to love the weather

Well its happened we have had our first snow fall of the season and its not even winter yet – though to see the snow on the ground you wouldn’t think that was the case.

“GTA gets early taste of winter with dusting of snow as drivers just north battle near-whiteout conditions” and from the looks of what I saw on the new we in the city did get away fair lucky with our dusting – ouch!

Time to VOTE

Well its time for another Federal Election here in Canada, time to see who will make up our next Government, will it be the NDP? Liberals? Conservatives? the Green?

I know that at the moment it looks like it might well be made again up of Conservatives once again, though I am so hoping that its not a majority government this time around, but if they do get some power that it is at least another minority government.

Do I have a preferance for who should get in power? Yes, of course I do, but the party I support doesn’t yet have enough support to get that as yet, maybe in another 10 years it might, but they have yet to get a single seat in parlament so maybe with this election that will change and they will be on their way to getting that possibility (as remote as it might well be).

Chuckles I just did the Star’s “Party Game” and it gave me Greens, Block and Liberals as my closet party matches.
